Pre-Reflections
I think about this project and realize that this is my first internship that I have ever done. I am blessed that I am in this position to learn and understand my future career field even more. While interviewing for this internship, I was even more thrilled that the internship is over the course of eight months. I knew that eight months, even it so being such a small amount of time, I could learn a lot. My mentor, Tony, is the real deal! He understands the importance of marketing and he does it in such a way that the advertisements are not overbearing. While only being an intern for a short month, he has taught me skills that I will use throughout my career.
State Bank of Southern Utah has grown tremendously over the course of the years. They are currently putting things in place to expand to northern Utah. With this growth, it means more and more employees. At first sight this is a great success, however, on the operational side it becomes more difficult to be flexible in today’s market. My concern is not with my internship but with the bank is that they are slow to realize that going digital is the key to maximizing their growth. I know being an intern it is not much of a concern, but with the potential of being hired after this eight-month period it is still in the back of my mind. Even though this may be a concern, I am still excited to work hard and develop my skill set to help State Bank continue to grow and give everyone the experience of hometown banking.
Post Reflections
Lessons learned – I have learned many technical skills in my time as an intern at State Bank of Southern Utah. The majority of the time I spent learning graphic design, videography, and cinematography. These are valuable skills that I will treasure and polish for the future. However, the most valuable lesson that I learned in this internship is the importance of teamwork and communication. While working with many different departments it is key to have a clear vision and idea so that everyone can collectively work together in that process.
Another thing that I learned is who I work well with and what types of leadership styles I like. My boss, Tony, does a great job on keeping the work environment stress free and open. He also is a great mentor by giving me career advice that I plan to use in my next opportunity.
Future plans – As I end my internship, I plan to use these skills that I have learned in my future endeavors and also strive to progress my knowledge of the marketing industry. Specifically, I plan to carry my communication skills to my next opportunity. There is always a focus on teaching technical skills, however, I see that communication is the most important thing in a workplace environment. My internship taught me so much about the marketing industry and I plan to continue my journey by applying myself to different opportunities to learn and grow.
